PAAVOLA — Jerome Arthur Kangas “Jerry”, 81, a lifelong resident of Paavola, passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, at UP Health System – Marquette, surrounded by his wife and family.

He was born on Jan. 25, 1944, in Hancock, a son of the late William and Phoebe (Hoitola) Kangas. Jerome was raised in Paavola and attended the Hancock Schools.

Jerome was a veteran, having served with the United States Army. After his service, he worked for various construction companies and retired with the Laborers Union Local No. 1329.

On Jan. 30, 1965, he was united in marriage to Shirley Frantila at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. The couple resided in Paavola where they raised their four daughters.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Shirley Kangas; daughters, Barbra Ellenich and her children, Kyle, Kevin
