People in extreme need are urged to attend this gathering
The Chaves County "Stand Down" event to help the needy will be held at Pioneer Park on Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. is described as “a community event dedicated to providing support, resources and care for at-risk individuals, veterans and families in need.”
The phrase “stand down” is used when combat troops are ordered to relax after performing under a state of alert.
“At secure base camp areas, troops were able to take care of personal hygiene, get clean uniforms, enjoy warm meals, receive medical and dental care, mail and receive letters, and enjoy the camaraderie of friends in a safe environment,” according to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans.
