A West Lothian police officer has told how he was attacked by a jogger after asking him to help with an investigation.
Constable Darren Gallagher was searching a canal path in Broxburn, West Lothian, for a woman who was threatening to harm herself, and thought the runner might have seen something, reports The Record.
However, instead of providing assistance, the runner punched the cop in the face in an unprovoked attack.
Darren called for backup, and the man was arrested.
However, the PC later discovered the charges had been dropped against the jogger. He said: "I’m walking on my own and saw him coming towards me. "I said ‘can I just stop and have a word with you?’ and he pushed me with two hands.
