SAN BERNARDINO — Fontana boys water polo coach Spencer Fernandes called this season’s team the calmest group he has ever had the opportunity to lead in almost two decades of coaching.
There was no celebrating by the Steelers as the lead swelled, just a focus on getting better with each minute.
Even when the clock struck zero, the celebration was subdued. The Steelers were lock in on every word their coach said about Tuesday’s 20-8 win over Westminster in a CIF Southern Section Division 5 semifinal match played at San Gorgonio High School and what lies ahead for the team.
Fontana (22-8) is the division’s top seed and has outscored its four playoff foes by a combined score of 79-22. The Steelers face Baldwin Park for the title Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College at a time to be determined
