Geomagnetic storm conditions sparked from coronal mass ejections produced a colorful display Tuesday night across much of the United States, with skygazers as far south as New Mexico, Texas and Florida reporting sightings of the northern lights.
Reds, pinks and greens could be seen in the night sky with the naked eye during the peak of the activity. Residents in all parts of New Mexico shared images of the phenomenon, including Santa Fe, Albuquerque and even down to Las Cruces .
While it is rare for the northern lights to be visible so far south, New Mexicans had the chance to see them last year, as well. The lights were visible to residents in many parts of the state on the night of Oct. 10, 2024 .
