The Senate approved a deal to end the country's longest-ever shutdown Monday night, bringing the U.S. government one step closer to re-opening.

In a 60-40 vote, the Senate signed off on a deal reached by eight Democratic Party members and Republicans to reopen the government through Jan. 30. Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin was one such Democrat who switched sides to vote in support of the deal.

The continuing resolution now heads to the House of Representatives, which is expected to take it up on Wednesday, Nov. 12 following the Veterans Day holiday. Though most Democrats in the Republican-controlled House are likely to vote against the measure, it's expected to have enough votes to pass.
