Cop brutally attacked by jogger speaks out as violence against officers soars View Image

A police officer has spoken of his shock after being attacked by a jogger while searching for a missing woman.

Constable Darren Gallagher was patrolling a canal path in Broxburn, West Lothian, when he spotted a man jogging towards him and stopped to ask if he had seen anyone matching the description of a woman who was threatening to harm herself.

But instead of helping, the jogger launched an unprovoked attack , punching Darren in the face.

The officer, who called for backup, said: “I was walking on my own and saw him coming towards me. I said, ‘Can I just stop and have a word with you?’ and he pushed me with two hands.
