Blue Jays legend Joe Carter was ready for a new “touch ’em all, Joe” moment.
Alas. The baseball gods had other plans.
“I was ready to give up my crown, I really was,” Carter told the MLB Network’s Harold Reynolds and Matt Vasgersian during an interview that aired as baseball’s general managers meetings kicked off in Las Vegas.
“I was ready to relinquish it. I’ve held it 32 years. Man, it was this close,” Carter said while measuring an inch with his fingers.
Carter, of course, secured his place in history by hitting a walk-off home run on Oct. 23, 1993 , at what was then the SkyDome to give the Blue Jays their second consecutive World Series title.
