LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville mother said her family escaped death with only seconds to spare. She said her family was sitting in their car on Grade Lane, only feet away as the UPS cargo plane crashed.
Mary Ballenger said Tuesday, Nov. 4, started like any other day.
“We pick the girls up at 2:10. We pick our son up at 4:20 and then we leave our son’s school and go get Daddy,” said Ballenger.
The family was sitting in their car outside Embry’s Auto Parts in Louisville, waiting to pick up Ballenger’s husband from work.
She could never have imagined what they would experience next.
“I looked up and coming straight toward us was the nose of the plane,” said Ballenger.
Ballenger described two loud booms, smoke, fire and intense heat.
“Me and my kids didn’t know what else to do but run
