There are few things that look quite as incredible as the aurora borealis . The incredible Northern Lights occur when charged particles from the Sun, known as solar winds, collide with gases high in our planet's atmosphere.

This creates a dazzling light show overhead, with stunning greens, pinks, and purples filling the skies. We have been enjoying this ethereal spectacle more often recently due to the Sun nearing solar maximum.

As it hits the peak of its 11-year cycle, magnetic storms are stronger and auroras are more frequent, meaning even more of us in the UK can enjoy the show, with Scotland particularly blessed.

Experts predict the current peak to last until March next year, before the cycle begins to wane again and the sightings become less frequent. T
