Shoshanna Williamson, known as Sho to her family and friends, is one of the most prolific fundraisers in northwestern Michigan.

What’s particularly interesting is that she’s only 11 years old.

The Pellston Middle School sixth-grader raises thousands of dollars every year for a variety of school and community causes. For example, she recently raised several hundred dollars to fund the building of suicide awareness benches at Pellston Public Schools and the town’s Veterans Memorial.

The money was raised through collecting and returning recycled 10-cent bottles and cans, and through appeals to local small business donors. Her parents, Tammy and Shanon, help with finding vendors who are willing to provide significant discounts on services needed as part of Sho’s
