Anguish and disbelief gripped the families of the Nithari victims after the Supreme Court on Tuesday acquitted Surendra Koli , setting aside his conviction in the 2006 serial killings case that once horrified the nation.

Speaking from Noida’s Nithari village, the mother of one of the murdered children said she could not comprehend the court’s decision.

“Moninder (Pandher) and Surendra (Koli) killed so many children. But now they are being called innocent. Was there some ghost in that house that killed all the children?" she asked.

“They used to murder kids and trade their organs. The law may have let them go, but God will not," the mother said, holding back her tears.

Echoing her outrage, a victim’s father questioned the very foundation of the verdict.
