Clippers buzzed and locks of hair piled up on the floor of the game room at Veterans Restoration Quarters in Asheville on Veterans Day.
Men, some wearing hats and jackets with military patches, stood around talking and joking or sat in the next room playing cards.
Hairdressers Amber Anderson and Makayla Myles, from the Hendersonville nonprofit Mercy Chair, were there Nov. 11, giving free haircuts to former service members.
“We’re trying to help homeless veterans get back on their feet, and while they’re with us, we provide wraparound support … One of these is offering haircuts,” Veterans Restoration Quarters Volunteer Coordinator Ruth Lolo told the Times-News Nov. 11.
