NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) -The Northern Lights were seen Tuesday night all across Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky. They will be visible again on Wednesday night.
A phone camera is better than the naked eye at capturing the phenomenon. Phones with longer exposure can help collect more light and capture a better image.
The Northern Lights, also known as Aurora Borealis, are a natural spectacular light display that happens when charged particles from the sun collide with gases in the Earth’s upper atmosphere.
They are usually seen near the north pole, but when solar activity increases, they are seen further south.
Tuesday night was a good example as a severe (G4) geomagnetic storm is underway following the early arrival of two CMEs (Cornal Mass Ejections).
