The Maharashtra government has decided to conduct the Common Entrance Test (CET) twice a year for engineering, pharmacy, and MBA programmes starting from the 2026–27 academic year. It will reduce academic stress and allow students another chance to improve their scores. This change brings the state’s entrance test system closer to the format of the national Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).
The announcement was made on Tuesday, November 11, by Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Dada Patil after a review meeting with senior officials. The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary B. Venugopal Reddy, CET Cell Commissioner Dilip Sardesai, Director of Higher Education Shailendra Devlankar, and Director of Technical Education Vinod Mohitkar.
