The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has conducted searches on the premises of a teacher in Thane and a person in Pune following the recent arrest of a software engineer for his alleged links with al-Qaida and other banned outfits.

On October 27, the ATS nabbed Zubair Hangargekar (37) for his alleged links with banned outfits such as al-Qaida and al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent, and for his suspected involvement in radicalisation activities.

During a house search in Pune's Kondhwa area, the ATS seized mobile phones containing deleted PDF files titled 'al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and All Its Manifestations'. Officials found an Urdu translation of a speech delivered by former al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden on Eid-ul-Fitr in one of the phones used by the techie.
