There was a heavy police presence in Rockland, Massachusetts, Tuesday night, as authorities searched for whoever shot a man and then fled the area.

Rockland police asked people to avoid the area of North Avenue and Deering Square around 11 p.m. Tuesday, citing an active investigation.

Hours later, police said in an update posted to Facebook that officers had responded to that area for a report of gunshots around 9:30 p.m. and arrived to find a man who had been injured in a shooting. There was no immediate update on the victim's condition.

Rockland police were assisted in their search for the suspect by Massachusetts State Police airwing and K9 units, and Hingham K9 and drone units.
