Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has alleged that it thwarted a dramatic espionage plot orchestrated jointly by Ukraine’s defence ministry and UK intelligence to hijack a MiG-31 fighter jet armed with the lethal Kinzhal hypersonic missile. The agency claimed the plan, if successful, could have sparked a major international incident.

According to a report by The Moscow Times, the FSB stated that Ukrainian operatives, under UK’s supervision, had devised a scheme to lure Russian pilots into defecting. The pilots were allegedly offered up to $3 million and citizenship in a Western country in exchange for flying the MiG-31 across the border to Romania.
