A man left his partner in fear for her life after trying to murder her during a weekend break at a luxury spa hotel, a court has heart.

Sean Hendry attacked her at the Sheraton Grand Hotel and Spa in Edinburgh after they went to their room following dinner and drinks. Advocate depute Alan Cameron KC told the High Court in Edinburgh: "In the room, some time after midnight, the accused became increasingly angry and aggressive towards the complainer, accusing her of sending messages to other men."

"She indicated that she wanted to leave but he got on top of her as she sat on the bed, placed both hands around her neck and then put his fingers down her throat. As a result she could not breathe and was gasping for air," said the prosecutor.
