Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma recently shared how SS Rajamouli reacted after watching Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal. During a conversation with Nagarjuna Akkineni and Vanga ahead of the re-release of Shiva, RGV said that Rajamouli had called him after watching Animal and said, “I compared Sandeep with you earlier, but I take my words back, he is the Ram Gopal Varma ka baap."

Varma said he was unaware of this earlier comparison but felt Vanga’s filmmaking style had earned such praise. While he admired Vanga’s bold approach, RGV also pointed out that some parts of Animal, especially the father-son relationship and a controversial scene featuring Triptii Dimri, felt inconsistent. The discussion took place as part of Shiva’s 36th-anniversary celebrations.
