CENTRAL ILLINOIS ( 25News Now ) - The Northern Lights were forecast to possibly reach Central Illinois Tuesday night, but to say that they overachieved the forecast might be an understatement!

We’ve received so many photos of the Northern Lights. Thank you to everyone who summited a photo on our 25News First Alert Weather app.

If you were lucky, you may have even been able to see the lights with the naked eye.

The forecast is for a severe geomagnetic storm to continue tomorrow, but this will likely be during the daytime hours. If we’re lucky, the lights may be possible across Central Illinois Wednesday evening and early Wednesday night.
