MACON, Ga. — For the second time in just over a year , some in Central Georgia caught a glimpse of the Northern Lights, the astronomical event which causes the night sky to light up with purple, redish and green colors.
While it was somewhat visible to many by the naked eye, those who took out their camera and snapped a photo of the phenomenon saw a strong reddish hue lighting up the night sky.
That is an uncommon sight here in the United States.
Typically, the Northern Lights are only visible in the most northern parts of the globe, rarely reaching the continental United States.
However, on Tuesday, the lights were visible due to a severe G4 geomagnetic storm . That storm caused a mass ejection of solar material/magnetic fields, including the particles that cause the northern ligh
