The number of canceled flights increased on Tuesday at airports across the nation, and it’s expected to grow even more by Friday if the federal government shutdown continues.

Last week, the Federal Aviation Administration released its list of 40 “high-volume” airports where flights are being reduced by 10% during the federal government shutdown, which includes flights at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

The action was enacted as some 13,000 air traffic controllers have been working unpaid since the shutdown began Oct. 1. Most work mandatory overtime six days a week, leaving little time for side jobs to help cover bills and other expenses unless they call out.
