Elle Fanning believes that now is "the perfect time" to finally star alongside her older sister Dakota Fanning.
The sibling actors and former child stars have been planning to act in a project together for years, and they will appear on-screen together for the first time in spring 2026, when filming begins on The Nightingale.
The Fannings will play siblings in the movie, based on Kristin Hannah's novel of the same name, and serve as producers.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Elle shared that they think the project was pushed back multiple times because they were meant to work together now.
"We always think everything happens for a reason. I truly believe that in this sense. We've grown, we've gotten older. I think it's important to do it right now," she said, before noting that earlier attempts to act alongside each other as children "didn't work out".
"There was always a reason why they didn't work out, but I think it was nice that we could forge our own paths and have our separate careers and discover ourselves as ourselves when we were younger, and not muddle that," she continued. "Now that we're older, we really do want to mesh it all and experience that... You grow with each experience, but this is the perfect time."
The Predator: Badlands actress noted she and Dakota have "never even read lines" together and will have to "get over" the fact that they're siblings when they start shooting.
"We have to get over it and treat each other as fellow actors," she added. "(We're going to have to get through a scene without) laughing or being like, 'Don't do that!'"
The Nightingale tells the story of two sisters struggling to survive throughout the German occupation of France during World War II.
Elle, 27, and Dakota, 31, have been attached to the project since 2019. It is set to be released in February 2027.
