ATLANTA — Arthur Blank is bringing a professional women’s soccer franchise to Atlanta, which could potentially mean an expansion of his company’s footprint in Marietta.
Blank, who owns the MLS’ Atlanta United and the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons, announced Tuesday he had purchased the rights for an expansion franchise of the National Women’s Soccer League.
He reportedly paid a record $165 million franchise expansion fee.
The club will begin play in 2028 and be owned and operated by Blank’s AMB Sports and Entertainment. First reported Sunday by The Athletic, the new club was officially announced at a celebratory event Tuesday night in West Midtown.
