PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Washington Community High School students honored the last World War ll veteran from Washington, and only one of nine in Tazewell County

102-year-old Max Tessier, a former educator and military veteran, was surprised that students gave him such a warm welcome on Veterans Day.

Students showcased their “American Flag Fundraiser” for the Greater Peoria Honor Flight and Mayor Lilija Stevens proclaimed this to be Max Tessier Day in Washington.

Tessier served three years in the military, including 18 months in the South Pacific. He expressed his thanks and appreciation for the ceremony.
