The city of Melbourne was thunderstruck on Wednesday night as legendary rockers AC/DC launched the Aussie leg of their global Power Up Tour at the MCG.

Close to 80,000 black-clad fans flooded the venue to witness the first chapter of what promises to be a high voltage rock pilgrimage for long-time supporters who have waited 10 years for their return to the local stage.

And hours earlier, a world record 374 bagpipers gathered at Federation Square to pay tribute to the band.

Teasing amped-up fans prior to the main event, promoter Christo Van Egmond suggested “you could feel the building shake” at the band’s soundcheck early in the week.

“It’s a well-oiled machine. The show’s just incredible, they are absolutely flying,” he said at a media call on Tuesday.
