NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE - Diplomats from the Group of Seven (G7) nations are convening in southern Ontario today to engage with Ukraine's foreign minister. This meeting comes as Russia intensifies its military campaign by targeting Ukraine's power infrastructure. The ongoing Russian assaults have resulted in widespread blackouts across Ukraine, raising concerns as winter approaches. U.S.-led diplomatic initiatives have not made significant progress amid the escalating conflict.

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand stated that the G7 meeting aims to reaffirm the collective support for Ukraine in response to Russian aggression. Over the course of the two-day meeting, foreign ministers from France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, along with representatives from the European Union, will address common economic and security issues.

In addition to the G7 members, Anand has extended invitations to Australia, Brazil, India, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, and Ukraine to participate in the discussions. The agenda will also cover critical topics such as energy security, economic resilience, and the implications of U.S. President Donald Trump's protectionist policies and tariffs on global geopolitics.

The meeting underscores the urgency of international cooperation as the situation in Ukraine continues to evolve. The G7 nations are expected to explore strategies to bolster support for Ukraine and address the broader implications of the ongoing conflict.
