Utica University junior Bennett Melita (Fonda-Fultonville) won the Empire 8 Conference men’s cross country individual title for the second time in three seasons, on Nov. 1 at St. John Fisher. Melita finished the 8-kilometer course in 25 minutes, 34.2 seconds.

Melita took the lead just before the halfway point of the race and never looked back. He won by 24 seconds. Melita takes his next step by competing in the NCAA Regionals on Saturday in Rochester.
