CHESTERFIELD, Mo. — Two people were uninjured after a small plane crash-landed into a tree line Tuesday evening near Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield.
The crash happened near Wilson Avenue and Wild Horse Creek Road at about 6 p.m. as the plane was returning to the airport.
Monarch Fire Protection District Fire Marshal Jim McKay said the pilot wasn't sure what happened but thought it was a possible mechanical failure. He deployed a parachute, which helped glide the plane into the tree line.
5 On Your Side was at the scene when a woman who knows the pair rushed to the scene and embraced them.
"They got up and walked away, so today was a miracle," said Chesterfield Councilwoman Merrell Hansen. "I haven't talked with the family but they're fine, everybody's OK."
