The chief constable of Police Scotland has insisted any man charged with rape or attempted rape will be recorded as male regardless of how they choose to identify their gender . ‌

Speaking at a meeting of Holyrood's public petitions committee today, Jo Farrell said the national constabulary had ensured biological sex was recorded in cases involving rape and sexual offences since 2018. ‌

The top cop said that following a decision in October the force is now seeking to ensure the biological sex of the offender will be recorded for all crimes. ‌
