What to know on Day 43 of the government shutdown:
The longest government shutdown in U.S. history could come to an end Wednesday night, if the House approves a funding package and sends it to President Trump for his signature. The House is set to vote on final passage around 7 p.m., and top Republicans say they are confident it will pass.
The lower chamber is returning for the first time since Sept. 19. Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters that GOP leaders are "very optimistic about the vote tally tonight." The shutdown would end as soon as the president signs the legislation, as he is expected to do.
