Firefighters extinguished a fire in a dorm room at Framingham State University overnight.

The Framingham Fire Department responded to an alarm notification at Corinne Towers at Framingham State just before 1 a.m. Wednesday.

When they arrived, they were met by campus police, who reported a fire on the residence hall's sixth floor. Firefighters proceeded to the sixth floor, where they found that the fire had been contained by the building's sprinkler system.

Fire crews finished putting out the fire and worked to ventilate smoke from the building, remaining on scene until about 3 a.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but officials said they believe it to be accidental in nature.
