When he got off his uncle’s boat along the Maumee River, Perrysburg teenager Robert Courtney noticed there weren’t any life rings in sight.
The 17-year-old Perrysburg High School and Penta Career Center student wondered what would happen if someone were drowning.
“There’s nothing to save them,” he said.
Robert decided to partner with the city of Perrysburg to address the lack of safety equipment by taking it upon himself to build life ring stations at parks in Perrysburg as part of his Eagle Scout project.
Robert, a member of Boy Scout Troop 167 at St. Rose Church in Perrysburg, built stations with the help of his fellow troop members at Orleans Park, Hood Park, the Maple Street boat ramp, Simmons Pond, and Three Meadows Pond.
