This upcoming weekend will see the first tip-off of the year for the Emporia State men’s basketball team. The team will play in the Hillyard Tipoff Classic to start the new year after an offseason of change. The offseason saw the team undergo significant changes, as eight recruits, consisting of transfers and freshmen, joined the team, while players who played significant roles on last year’s squad transferred out.
Last season, the men’s team finished 11-18 overall and 8-11 in MIAA play, advancing to the MIAA playoffs for the sixth consecutive season. It was also the first season under Head Coach Tom Billeter, who also reached 500 coaching wins at the collegiate level last season. To round out the season, the Hornets had a third team all-conference player in Karyiek Dixon.
