Jack Schlossberg — the only grandson of President John F. Kennedy — has officially announced his run for Congress, saying he’s ready to fight for his hometown.
In a video shared to social media on Tuesday, Nov. 11, Schlossberg, 32 — who is both Yale and Harvard educated — said he’s seeking to represent New York’s 12th Congressional District, which covers parts of Manhattan’s East Side, including the Upper East Side, Midtown, and parts of Queens and Brooklyn.
He's hoping to succeed Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler, who is retiring after more than 30 years in office.
“Two hundred and fifty years after America was founded, our country is at a turning point,” Schlossberg said. “It’s a crisis at every level.”
Schlossberg, who is the son of Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg, outlined what he called a “cost of living crisis,” citing “historic cuts to social programs working families rely on” and “a corruption crisis” fueled by “cronyism, not capitalism.”
He also warned of a “constitutional crisis with one dangerous man in control of all three branches of government,” adding that “the worst part is: it doesn’t have to be this way.”
Schlossberg said the solution begins with Democrats “winning back control of the House of Representatives.”
Calling New York’s 12th District “the best part of the greatest city on Earth,” Schlossberg said he wants to be a representative who listens.
“I’m not running because I have all the answers,” he said. “I’m running because the people of New York 12 do. I want to listen to your struggles, hear your stories, amplify your voice, go to Washington and execute on your behalf.”
