DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa State Capital Bureau) -- Some families on Wednesday should have something they have waited to get for nearly two week, while others continue to wait: federal food assistance benefits.

A U.S. Supreme Court ruling Tuesday extended the pause for 42 million Americans who rely on federal food assistance. The ruling also extends uncertainty for the families who have endured several weeks of additional financial hardship.

Although, it is possible that benefits could resume soon if the U.S. House of Representatives agrees Wednesday on a new temporary funding measure that senators approved on Monday.
