LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has joined a coalition of 18 other attorneys general and the City of New York in urging the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to immediately publish a long-delayed rule expanding language access for emergency alerts sent to mobile devices.

The rule, unanimously approved by the FCC in January 2025, would broaden Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs) to include 13 additional languages and American Sign Language (ASL).

However, Nessel’s office says the commission has refused to move forward with implementation for the past 10 months.

In a letter sent this week , the coalition warned the FCC that if the rule is not submitted for publication within 30 days, they are prepared to take legal action.
