Steelers quarterback Will Howard has been activated to the 53-man roster, and cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. has been signed to Pittsburgh's practice squad, the team announced Wednesday.

The Steelers waived running back Trey Sermon, clearing a roster spot for Howard. Defensive back Darrick Forest was released from the practice squad. Advertisement

Howard, a sixth-round draft pick from Ohio State , was on injured reserve with a hand injury from training camp . He returned to practice in late October, which gave the Steelers a 21-day window to activate Howard.
