NORFOLK, Va. — Did you miss the northern lights Tuesday night? Good news — there’s another chance Wednesday night! But before you head outside, here’s what you should know if you’re hoping to catch the show in Hampton Roads.
There’s currently a geomagnetic storm happening up north, which can make the northern lights visible farther south than usual. The experts at NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) say the northern lights could appear tonight, but at our latitude, southeastern Virginia, it will be faint unless the storm gets really strong.
The “view‑line” forecast from SWPC shows the strongest displays are farther north than us, so here in Hampton Roads, we’re on the edge of visibility. That means even if the lights show up, you might see only a faint glow toward the northe
