Despite pushing back the timeline for UI Health Care's new $1.5B inpatient tower , the university plans to use a total of $40 million for a variety of upcoming facility projects.
The University of Iowa and UI Health Care are seeking approval from the Iowa Board of Regents at its November meeting to build out "shell spaces" on the North Liberty Campus, modernize operating rooms at the downtown medical center, and renovate a laboratory space in the John Pappajohn Pavilion.

UI Health Care's 496,000-square-foot, $5285 million campus opened in April of 2025. Now, the healthcare system is asking the Board of Regents to approve plans to complete the "shell" space and move forward with construction.
