Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport saw continued flight cancellations and delays on Wednesday, Nov. 12, due to FAA capacity reductions resulting from the government shutdown.
Flight tracking website FlightAware showed 22 flights to and from Sky Harbor were delayed and 42 flights were canceled as of 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 12.
Throughout the government shutdown, airports nationwide have experienced air traffic controller shortages. Controller shortages at Sky Harbor led to ground delays and the FAA's mandated capacity reductions .
Although air traffic controllers are considered essential workers and must report to work, some are not coming in as they wouldn't be paid during the shutdown. A deal to end the shutdown would give unpaid federal workers, including air traffic controller
