SALT LAKE CITY — A Midvale man was arrested on Monday on suspicion of attempting to entice a minor into sexual activity, according to a booking affidavit.
Benjamin Vance Whitcomb, 43, is facing a third-degree felony and a class A misdemeanor charge after sexualizing what he believed to be two children on messaging platforms, according to the document.
The document states that Whitcomb began chatting with someone he believed was a 16-year-old girl on a messaging platform that allows anonymous chatting between users. After Whitcomb began chatting with the undercover officer, the pair then moved to another app.
On the second app, Whitcomb and the officer discussed Whitcomb’s intent, and Whitcomb asked whether the officer was 16 years old, as he had believed, according to the document.
