Respect the wildlife. It's basically rule number one when visiting U.S. national parks, or really any outdoor space visitors are sharing with animals.

Despite consistent messaging and pleading from park rangers, there are always those visitors who think they know better. The ignorant tourists, often called "tourons," are seen creeping up behind grazing bison, incessantly photographing wandering bears, and all but petting the local deer.

Tourons are often at their worst in Yellowstone National Park. Home to the largest public herd of bison in the U.S., people seem to consistently mistake the slow pace of the giant mammals with gentleness. Despite their lumbering pace, bison have no problem chasing down those who invade their space, trampling and goring offending tourists.
