FAIRFIELD, Ala. —

Fairfield City Schools are seeing positive changes after receiving their report card from the state Department of Education, with Fairfield High Preparatory School improving its grade from a D to a C.

There are plans to continue that progress under the leadership of new principal Tamika Harton.

Harton, who has not been at the school for long, credits former administrators for the initial improvements.

She has identified areas where students need support.

"Some of our students need a lot of support in reading, in math. Unfortunately, we do have many students who are not reading on grade level," Harton said. "They may be two or three grade levels below, maybe even more. And so, we find ourselves having to go back to some of those basic things in order to get them where
