A man has been charged after a skip lorry struck into a railway bridge on Wednesday afternoon, sparking delays to Edinburgh train services.

The incident occurred on Newcraighall Road, next to Newcraighall station in the south-east of the city, at around 12.50pm on November 12.

Trains between Edinburgh and Tweedbank were subject to cancellations and revisions as a section of the line was closed while engineers inspected the bridge..

ScotRail later confirmed just before 3pm that services had returned to normal.

In pictures shared with Edinburgh Live, the metal surrounding the lorry's cab buckled and its windscreen smashed.

Police Scotland attended the crash, and confirmed a man had been charged in connection.
