Toledo Public Schools says the district is being forced to pause a majority of its Head Start and Early Childhood Education programs due to the prolonged government shutdown.

As a result of TPS not receiving its Dec. 1 federal award notification, operations will be suspended starting on Dec. 1.

Head Start provides early learning, nutrition, health screenings, and family support services to low-income children from birth to 5 years old. The pause will affect more than 1,000 students enrolled in TPS-sponsored programs, as well as 124 employees.

Pre-K classes funded through the federal Title I program are not affected.
