SARTELL, Minn. — Survivors of a Minnesota man pulled from the Mississippi River after being missing for decades can rest easier, knowing that his death did not involve foul play.

After several weeks of going over the remains of Roy Benn and evidence recovered by investigators, the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office concluded that Benn died from a single-vehicle crash with water submersion. His case will now be closed with the death being ruled accidental.

Roy Benn disappeared without a trace back in 1967. His great nephew, Jeff Benn, told KARE 11 in August that family members, and even detectives working the case of Roy's disappearance, thought his life had come to a violent end.
