The US has criticised the Government’s decision to build the UK’s first “small modular reactor” nuclear power station in North Wales using Rolls-Royce technology in the latest souring of relations with the White House.

The project, which is the first of its kind on UK soil , will be built on Anglesey by the publicly-owned Great British Energy-Nuclear and backed with £2.5bn in Government funding.

Ministers have announced that three new small-scale reactors , which are quicker to build than traditional reactors, will be designed by British firm Rolls-Royce, and it is hoped the site will begin powering the grid by the mid-2030s. New Feature
