A massive haul of $6.5 million worth of fentanyl has been taken off the streets in Windsor – the largest seizure of the deadly drug ever made by the OPP.
Ontario Provincial Police say the seizure of 46 kilograms of fentanyl stems from an investigation dubbed Project Rotherham that was launched last year.
Two people face charges in the drug trafficking bust, which comes just five months after another lengthy investigation in Southern Ontario led to the seizure of 38 kilograms of fentanyl – now the OPP’s second-largest seizure ever of the drug.
“Fentanyl is a national enforcement priority,” OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique said in a statement Wednesday. “We are working with our partners across Ontario, and beyond, to stop the flow of this deadly drug into the communities we serve.”
